Week 27 in review: OnePlus Nord rumors, iPhone 12 won’t have charger in the box

The OnePlus Nord was the talk of week 27. We saw a few teasers for it and we know it packs a triple camera on the rear as well as a dual camera on the front, that it’s powered by the Snapdragon 765G and that it will cost under $500.

We already had a good idea that Apple is planning to ditch the earbuds from the iPhone 12 retail package, likely to boost AirPods sales. Well it seems Apple will also ditch the in-box charger from its future iPhones, with the pretext of a reduced environmental hit. Analysts believe the move aims to offset the added cost of 5G in the iPhone 12.

I used the Huawei Mate Xs and now I don’t want to go back to a normal smartphone

Does your phone turn into a tablet?

Some say all phones kind of look alike these days. Their features might be different, but overall, we’re stuck with the glass slab design. The push towards maximizing the feature set has more or less lead to standardizing the smartphone design robbing us of the variety we enjoyed in the past.

But these phones, all of them, have one huge downside that no one talks about – they don’t turn into tablets. I’m only half joking there – smartphones have now gotten to a place where their looks and general feature set are commoditized. That’s great if you enjoy…

Sony WF-XB700 truly wireless earphones review

The WF-XB700 are the latest in Sony’s Extra Bass lineup. Not to be confused with the WH-XB700, which are full-sized circumaural headphones, the WF-XB700 that we are looking at today are a pair of truly wireless earbuds.

The WF-XB700 are a more affordable alternative to Sony’s popular but expensive WF-1000XM3 earphones. These do not include the active noise-canceling and some of the more advanced features of the WF-1000XM3 but have a more standard feature set with the addition of Extra Bass sound. At $130, the WF-XB700 are a full $100 cheaper than the WF-1000XM3 and more in line…

Top 10 trending phones of week 27

Week 27 was an exceptionally quiet one as far as our top 10 trending chart is concerned. Most of the phones are exactly where we left them last week with the Redmi Note 9 Pro still leading from the Galaxy A51.

The Redmi Note 9 is third, while the Realme C11 is the first phone to have moved and is now fourth. It has traded places with the Galaxy A71 that now sits fifth, ahead of the Redmi Note 8.

In seventh we have the OnePlus Nord, while the Galaxy A21s is now sitting in eight.

The only new addition to the chart is the ninth-placed Realme X3, which has replaced the Narzo in the top…

Spotify Premium Duo plan allows two accounts to share one subscription

Spotify has introduced a new subscription for couples living in the same household to share a single subscription between two accounts.

Called the Spotify Premium Duo plan, it is basically a version of the family plan for just 2 people. For a monthly cost of $13, two individuals can have their own separate accounts and don’t have to deal with the recommendation algorithm going wild with two different music preferences.

The Duo plan basically works the same way as family plan, where Spotify requires you to have the same address for all involved accounts. Of course, just as is…

WhatsApp adds animated stickers, QR codes, and dark mode for web

WhatsApp is adding some new features to its simple yet incredibly popular apps. One of these is animated stickers. While hugely popular on several other messaging platforms like Telegram, iMessage, and WeChat, WhatsApp has only had very basic sticker support. WhatsApp will soon be rolling out its own animated sticker packs, which will be available from within the app.

Another new feature is QR codes for profiles. Each account now has its own QR code, which makes it easy to scan someone’s code to add them as a contact instead of manually entering their number. Again, this feature has…

Google Maps gets updated UI for Android Auto on smartphone

Starting with Google Maps version 10.45, a slightly updated interface appears when using the app through the Android Auto standalone app. The update gets a slightly new appearance with updated buttons and more floaty signs and menus.

As reported by Android Police, the directions and signs during navigations now have rounded corners and take up less space so you can still see some of the map in the back. At the same time, the update makes landscape navigation better. Directions don’t take up the length of the screen and popping up the settings menu will no longer cover the whole…

Samsung leaked the Galaxy Note20 Ultra in “Mystic Bronze”

Samsung has accidentally posted images of the Galaxy Note20 Ultra and here they are for us to enjoy. First spotted by Russian YouTuber Techno Harry, the images were inadvertently published on Samsung’s Ukraine website. Ironically enough, the images were spotted at the bottom of the website’s Galaxy Note8 page.

The phone appears in the pictures as “Mystic Bronze”, and we get a really good look at the triple camera setup on the back. This color reminds us of a “Metallic Copper” that the Galaxy Note9 came in.

Week 26 in review: iOS 14 and Realme X3 official, OnePlus Nord/Z teasing begins

This week Apple kicked off its online-only WWDC by detailing the new iOS 14, iPadOS, tvOS, WatchOS and macOS Big Sur.

Apple also promised to show its first ARM-based Macs by the end of the year, though it said it isn’t going to stop working with Intel.

We also saw dummies of Apple’s rumored iPhone 12 trio. The new design is flat and squarish, reminiscent of the iPhone 5 and 5s of old. The rear has a…

Haylou Solar review – a hidden smart wearable gem

Here’s the quick version of what the Haylou Solar is – the Xiaomi Mi Band functionality with even better battery life, traditional watch styling and a big round display for around €20. Sounds intriguing? Read on then to see how well it all works.

The Haylou Solar uses an LCD rather than an OLED panel so an always-on display feature is out of the question, so even in that you have feature parity with the Mi Band. Also, despite what the name may lead you to believe there’s no Solar charging of any sort here.

Haylou Solar (Haylou LS05) specs
