The Asus ROG Phone 3 has a hidden 160Hz display mode

The Asus ROG Phone 3 has a lovely 6.59-inch AMOLED panel with a joint-fastest refresh rate of 144Hz on a phone. It turns out, the panel can run even faster – up to 160Hz to be exact.

The guys over at XDA-Developers found an Android Debug Bridge command that enables the ROG Phone 3’s panel to run at an experimental 160Hz for testing and everyone with basic ADB knowledge can enable it (instructions in the source link below).

XDA has confirmed that the screen does indeed run at 160Hz and that some games, capable of 144fps, being technically fps-unlocked, can run at 160fps. We verified in…

Another Samsung Galaxy Watch3 fully unboxed in Mystic Bronze ahead of launch event

A new video has been published to YouTube by The Mobile Central which shows us a full unboxing, tour, and pairing process for the yet to be released Samsung Galaxy Watch3. According to the video, a retailer (presumably in the UAE) sold this watch ahead of its release date.

We saw another video starring the Galaxy Watch3 surface just several hours ago, but this one isn’t a spy or leak video, it’s a full-on unboxing and setup.

The Watch3 in this video is a Mystic Bronze 41mm version with model number SM-R850. Around the 1-minute mark, the host speculates the possibility of the…

vivo S7 render reveals camera design, it is similar to the X50 Pro

The vivo S7 announcement is scheduled for Monday, and today the manufacturer gave us another teaser, revealing the camera setup and one of the colors, and they both look intriguing.

The S7 will sport a similar setup to the vivo X50 Pro – one main cam with a big lens in the upper side of a rectangle setup, accompanied by two auxiliary shooters. The big difference is we don’t see a periscope cam, but the S series leans to the mid-tier price range, so it’s not really a surprise.

The color looks interesting, but it is hardly a surprise anymore – we’ve seen numerous different gradients…

Weekly poll: does 100W+ charging matter?

This week several companies announced 100+ watt fast charging solutions for future smartphones – iQOO’s 120W Super FlashCharge, Realme’s 125 W UltraDART, Xiaomi teased a 100W charger, Oppo announced not only 125 W wired charging but also 65W AirVOOC wireless charging. The Lenovo Legion will get close with 90W. How much is too much?

According to Oppo’s numbers, a 4,000 mAh battery will be fully charged in 20 minutes. iQOO promises to do it in 15 minutes. Xiaomi’s 100W charger is no slouch either, doing 0-100% in 17 minutes. In the case of Oppo’s wireless option, 100% charge is reached in…

Oppo Enco M31 wireless earphones review

The Enco M31 are the latest pair of wireless earphones from Oppo. On paper, the Enco M31 seem fully featured, with LDAC, Hi-Res Wireless Audio certification, IPX5 certified water resistance, and Ai-powered noise cancellation for voice calls, all at a relatively affordable price.

The inclusion of LDAC alone should put a smile on a few faces, as support for this codec is largely absent in budget audio gear. And the Enco M31 is well and truly “budget”; I picked up this pair for INR 1999 from Amazon India, which is only about $26. So what’s the catch and how do they perform? Let’s find…

Week 29 in review: Oppo shows 125W charging, OnePlus Nord teasers intensify

As the OnePlus Nord is scheduled for announcement next week, we got a bunch of stories about it last week. OnePlus’ Carl Pei showed off the phone in grey and cyan. He also appeared to be using the new OnePlus Buds, in matching cyan.

The Buds were confirmed to launch alongside the Nord on July 21.

The battery capacities of the iPhone 12 series were revealed by certification docs. It looks like the iPhone 12 models will have slightly smaller battery capacities compared to the current iPhone 11 lineup.

The 5.4-inch iPhone 12 will have a 2,227mAh cell, the 6.1-inch iPhone 12 Pro will…

Top 10 trending phones of week 29

This week’s 10 most popular phones in our database are exactly the same as those from week 28 and yet not a single one of them is where we left it.

The hype surrounding the Poco M2 Pro launch has died down so the former leader founds itself all the way down in sixth.

The Redmi Note 9 Pro and Samsung Galaxy A51 have now reclaimed the top two spots, while OnePlus is clearly successful in hyping up the Nord as it’s already in third.

The Redmi Note 9 and Redmi 9 duo follows, while the M2 Pro makes it three Xiaomi-made phones in a row.

Samsung’s Galaxy A71 and A21s take seventh and…

Week 27 in review: OnePlus Nord rumors, iPhone 12 won’t have charger in the box

The OnePlus Nord was the talk of week 27. We saw a few teasers for it and we know it packs a triple camera on the rear as well as a dual camera on the front, that it’s powered by the Snapdragon 765G and that it will cost under $500.

We already had a good idea that Apple is planning to ditch the earbuds from the iPhone 12 retail package, likely to boost AirPods sales. Well it seems Apple will also ditch the in-box charger from its future iPhones, with the pretext of a reduced environmental hit. Analysts believe the move aims to offset the added cost of 5G in the iPhone 12.

I used the Huawei Mate Xs and now I don’t want to go back to a normal smartphone

Does your phone turn into a tablet?

Some say all phones kind of look alike these days. Their features might be different, but overall, we’re stuck with the glass slab design. The push towards maximizing the feature set has more or less lead to standardizing the smartphone design robbing us of the variety we enjoyed in the past.

But these phones, all of them, have one huge downside that no one talks about – they don’t turn into tablets. I’m only half joking there – smartphones have now gotten to a place where their looks and general feature set are commoditized. That’s great if you enjoy…

Sony WF-XB700 truly wireless earphones review

The WF-XB700 are the latest in Sony’s Extra Bass lineup. Not to be confused with the WH-XB700, which are full-sized circumaural headphones, the WF-XB700 that we are looking at today are a pair of truly wireless earbuds.

The WF-XB700 are a more affordable alternative to Sony’s popular but expensive WF-1000XM3 earphones. These do not include the active noise-canceling and some of the more advanced features of the WF-1000XM3 but have a more standard feature set with the addition of Extra Bass sound. At $130, the WF-XB700 are a full $100 cheaper than the WF-1000XM3 and more in line…
